Melissa Chenok · product leader, builder & advisor

About

I started my career in neuroscience, studying how the brain works. That curiosity still shapes how I build: what makes a product worth coming back to, and how does it earn someone's trust?

Today, I'm the founding PM at Span, where we help engineering teams get real value from AI. Before Span, at Lattice, I built the foundation that powered every product and went on to lead the platform teams. As Head of Product, Engineering & Design at Quorum, I helped scale the company from zero to $80M ARR. Earlier, at IBM, I shipped six products used by more than 500,000 people.

Outside of work, I advise and invest in early-stage startups, make pottery, spend time with my foster dog and family, and spend as much time outside as I can.

NNk+ users now trust an agent enough to act on what it hands back.

Joined as founding PM to build the entire product: copilot experiences, generated artifacts, and the engineering observability layer that lets people hand real work to an agent and trust the result.

Owned the surfaces where AI stops being a chat window and starts being infrastructure: how it acts, what it shows its work as, and how engineers verify it.

ARR scaled

Built and scaled the platform underneath every product surface, from core experience to the AI layer.

Started by building out the product team covering core experience, internationalization, AuthN/Z, design systems, and the SRE, DevEx, and infra teams.

Grew into the director and GPM role over platform, leading 7 PMs and 70 people across EPD in that domain.

As principal PM, led the consolidation of the core suite and HRIS, and built out the AI layer.

Grew the market itself, from a $300M niche to $2B of customers who could be served.

Built a 70-person EPD org from scratch, including hiring, structure, and process, while the product and market were still being figured out in real time.

Grew revenue 2,500%+ and expanded the addressable market from $300M to $2B by pushing the product into adjacent use cases the original scope didn't cover.

Problem

Amazon Photos has no built-in way to find duplicate or near-identical shots, so libraries just keep growing with repeat bursts and no way to clean them up without going photo by photo.

What I built

A side panel extension that scans the library (resumable, skips unchanged years), groups exact and near-duplicate photos, and scores each group on sharpness, faces, aesthetics, and exposure to suggest a keeper. A review tab lets you accept, swap, or keep all before the rest move to Amazon's trash in batches, with an undo log to restore a run.

Outcome

Nothing is downloaded to disk. Favorites and albums are never touched, and every trash run can be undone while it's still in Amazon's trash.
